Some people wear the hats in the belief that they act to shield the brain from such influences as electromagnetic fields, or against alien interference mind control and/or mind reading. Others wear them as a stylish fashion accessory.[citation needed]

I still can't really listen to a lot of Envy without getting bored really fast.

That St. Vincent girl is incredible, totally digging her vibes. The Pinback album has been on solid roation for a while, the second half of the album is so killer, can deal without the first 5 or so songs, I actually deleted them. And the only song I like from MIA's newest offering is "Jimmy", has an old disco vibe. But I need to listen to that album with more attention.

The new Pinback sounds more like a Rob Crowe side project than any old Pinback stuff.  The drums sound so huge comparatively, but it definitely has its cuts.

I found this old LP called "Do it NOW."  From the back:  "This album is a celebration of life--a feeling of energy and love by the poets, artists and musicians who have joined together to speak for a purpose--to relay the message against drug abuse."  It includes artists such as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Crazy Elephant, The Beatles and other completely sober bands.

dissection - reinkaos, the somberlain
agalloch - the mantle (they're from portland! i thought they were from...norway.)
descendents - milo goes to college
darkest hour - undoing ruin, deliver us (digging it more with each listen)
weakerthans - left & leaving
king's evil - deletion of humanoise
dying fetus - destroy the opposition
death - human
akimbo - city of the stars

video game related note: godfather - black hand edition on wii. you make the motions to choke people! TO CHOKE THEM!!! basically, you act like you are shaking a baby, as i'm sure many of you are familiar with.

Red House Painters is one of those bands I always meant to check out but never got around to it. what do they sound like?

I DIDN'T THINK THE DEAD LISTENED TO MUSIC...

One of my absolute alltime favorites! I like the album Symbolic just barely more than that one.

The Somberlain and Storm of the Lights Bane just got reissued recently. 2lp, super thick gatefold, very nicely done. You can maybe special order them at the RX.

Red House Painters are very mellow, reflective, indie-singer songwriter stuff. I really like the guys voice, very bodiless and airy yet super emotive. Mark Kozelesk, he also sings for Sun Kill Moon.

Also if you like middle period Death such as Human and Symbolic, and you like the proggier side of things, you should absolutely check out the band Cynic. Very similar to Death (maybe because one of the guitarists and drummer from the Human album are in the Cynic) but with weird new agey interludes. Sounds weird but it works! They only made one album ever, Focus.

Concert For Bangladesh, 1971

Weedeater - God Luck & Good Speed
The Commodores - Greatest Hits

Bird Eater - Utah
